ABOUT
Panayiotis Tofi is a Greek Cypriot choreographer, movement designer, director, and physical performer. Originally trained as a visual artist and designer, he transitioned into dance and choreography with a deep curiosity about the body as both archive and instrument, exploring its potential in relation to space and the unseen.
Panayiotis earned a First Class Bachelor of Contemporary Dance and a Diploma in Dance Studies from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. His choreographic research delves into themes of concealment, dispossession, and decentralisation, centering on the fragile beauty, exhaustion, and vulnerability of the uninhabited body, as well as the uncanny presence of the unfamiliar. His works, such as Tormentful Invisibility (2025), Erroneous Encounters (2024), Mon Otage (2023) and Body of Mine (2022), are known for their minimalist yet striking aesthetics, poetic use of text, and intense physicality.
In 2018, he was honoured as ‘Creator of the Year’ by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation for his imaginative and bold approach to experimentation. His collaborations include movement directing alongside several theatre companies and directors, including Yiannis Paraskevopoulos, Paris Erotokritou, Heinz-Uwe Haus, Aliki Danezi Knütsen and many others. He has recently been appointed to choreograph the Opening Ceremony of the Presidency of Cyprus in European Council 2026, amongst a team of established creatives and artists.
As a performer, he has worked across Europe with artists like Tony Thatcher, Charles Linehan, Vânia Gala, Alexis Vassiliou, Fotis Nicolaou and Lia Haraki. Drawing from his choreographic research, Panayiotis has facilitated movement and composition workshops in cities like Stockholm, Naples, London, Athens, Hermoupolis, Limassol and Nicosia, supporting and mentoring professional dancers and actors as well as students in Movement for Theatre, Floor Work, Contact and Improvisation.
Within 2025 he initiated the movement workshops series for the local community ‘Now We Move’, designed for passionate adult movers of all backgrounds. He is currently deepening his choreographic research through postgraduate studies within COMMA in Netherlands.
